Job Description

Mowlem Group construction company based in the UK is  currently looking for skilled professionals in Ghana to work on the Tema – Aflao road in Accra.

The Health and Safety Officer plays a critical role in ensuring the well-being and
security of employees, visitors, and assets within the company. This position
involves implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving health and safety
protocols and procedures in compliance with industry regulations and company
standards on site. The Health and Safety Inspector collaborates with various
departments to identify potential hazards, develop risk mitigation strategies, and
cultivate a culture of safety awareness.

Key Tasks:

 Assist to conduct environmental and safety audits
 Oversee implementation and enforcement of health and safety policies,
procedures, and guidelines.
 Stay up-to-date with relevant laws and regulations to ensure the company's
adherence to legal requirements.
 Implement programs, plans and procedures and support for ISO 9001,
14001 and 45001.
 Conducts toolbox meetings
 Inspect and examine all health and safety related complaints, workplace
accidents, outbreaks of diseases, the spill of hazardous toxins or poison.
 Work closely with the client representatives, enforcement agencies and
representatives of subcontractors
 Identify and assess potential workplace hazards and risks.
 Conduct regular inspections to proactively identify areas for improvement and recommend corrective actions.
 Investigate the work zones to ascertain equipment, production, and material
processes do not pose a safety or health hazard to employees, work guests,
and the general public.
 Ensure the appropriate Health and Safety documentation/records are being
maintained on site.
 Deliver training programs to educate employees on safe work practices,
emergency procedures, and proper use of safety equipment.
 Foster a culture of safety consciousness throughout the company.
 Implement generated procedures for safety management systems
 Inducting new contractor and subcontractor workers
 Issue improvement and STOP WORK notice for unsafe practices on site
 Coaching workers on HSE matters
 Validate and approve permits for contractor and subcontractors.
 Lead investigations into workplace accidents, incidents, and near misses.
 Compile comprehensive incident and accident reports, determine root
causes, and propose corrective measures to prevent future occurrences.
 Write daily safety and health reports and ensure they are completed
 Implement emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures, fire
drills, and first aid protocols.
 Ensure that emergency equipment and supplies are readily available and
employees are well-prepared for potential crises.
 Assist to collaborate in developing and implementing traffic control plans as
necessary for projects.
 Ensure all accidents and incidents are immediately reported to the SHEQ
Manager & Safety Supervisor and fully assist with any investigation deemed
necessary.

Essential Experience:
 Proven experience in SHEQ and security management in the construction
industry standards.
 Experience in conducting safety inspections, incident investigations, and risk
assessments.
 Experience in working with subcontractors, contractors
 Excellent communication skills to convey safety information and lead
training sessions.
 Proficiency in using safety management software and tools.
 In-depth knowledge of local and national safety regulations and standards.
 Experience in Road construction
 At least 4 years SHEQ Management experience.

 

Essential Qualifications :
 Bachelor’s degree/HND in occupational health and safety, Environmental
Science, or a related field
