Role Summary
• The job holder will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the bank’s information technology (IT) department.
• This entails providing strategic leadership and direction for the bank’s technology agenda, ensuring regulatory compliance with all applicable standards and guidelines and managing the overall IT function to deliver secure, efficient and innovative solutions that support the bank’s mission
• The job holder will take ownership of the IT budget, ensure effective allocation of resources and cost efficiency while driving value for the bank.
• It will also involve managing relationships with technology vendors and service providers, negotiating contract and ensuring service delivery meets the bank’s standards
• In addition, the job holder will play a critical role in ensuring that all technology resources-systems, infrastructure, applications and people are aligned with the bank’s strategic objectives. The role will champion digital transformation, promote operational resilience and foster innovation to enhance customer experience and operational efficiency.
Prioritized responsibilities of the Head, information technology, including the following:
Strategy & Leadership
• Develop and execute a strategic IT plan aligned with the bank’s business goals
• Provide leadership and direction for the IT team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
• Advise senior management on emerging technologies, opportunities and risks
Financial Management
• Develop and manage the annual IT budget and forecast
• Control IT expenditures and ensure cost-effectiveness of all IT initiatives
• Manage software licensing, hardware procurement and vendor contracts
Vendor & Risk Management
• Negotiate and manage contracts with key technology vendors (e.g Temenos, Microsoft).
• Develop and maintain a comprehensive IT risk register
• Ensure robust Business continuity and Disaster Recovery plans are in place and tested regularly
Compliance & Governance
• Ensure all IT systems and processes comply with banking regulations and data protection laws (e.g. GDPR, local banking directives)
• Serve as the primary point of contact for all internal and external IT audits
• Establish and enforce IT policies, procedures and standards
Qualification Required & Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field
• A master’s degree in information technology, computer science, cybersecurity or an MBA with specialization in information systems/Technology management will bean added advantage
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT, with at least 5 years in management role within the financial services industry
• Proven experience in budget management, vendor negotiation and strategic planning
• Professional qualification and certification in IT and IT related fields
• In-depth knowledge of banking regulations and compliance requirements
Technical Job Requirements
• Proven track record in developing and implementing IT strategies, policies and governance framework aligned with business objectives
• Demonstrated experience in managing enterprise wide IT infrastructure, network management, disaster recovery cloud computing and general IT system security risk management
• Experience in leading large IT projects and digital transformation initiatives, including system integrations, automation and modernization.
• Strong background in budgeting, vendor management and IT service delivery
• Strong knowledge in IT Governance, service management, IT enterprise architecture design and IT project management
