Job Purpose: General purpose support function with respect to maintenance (electrical, plumbing, building) landscape, general office fittings, equipment maintenance and servicing at the Bioprocessing Platform.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

• Matric Grade 12 or N3 Mechanical Engineering

• Preference: Diploma: Mechanical Engineering, N6 Mechanical Engineering or integrated Trades Programme.

• 3 years General knowledge and use of hand tools

• 3 years electrical, plumbing, landscaping, masonry, mechanical and related tasks experience

• General understanding of functioning of equipment and machines

Duties and Responsibilities

General Maintenance and Safety

• Develop a site maintenance plan and oversee service providers as they undertake approved maintenance or render services.

• Periodically maintain the lawn, clean the yard, parking area and utilities passage.

• Plan and arrange activities related with equipment maintenance to enhance equipment accessibility and functionality

• Develop and maintain a corrective action plan for all internal and external equipment inspections.

• Carry out various utility related tasks (cleans the chiller unit and the effluent sump when required, changes and cleans the air conditioner filters at given intervals and carries out minor plumbing and electrical repairs where applicable)

• Services the blue water chiller unit and treats the unit with the chemical required and changes water filters for the ice machines.

• Services the steam reducer valve and changes steam traps and arrange for calibration .

• Identifies the need and coordinates the procurement of critical spares for equipment to minimize breakdown.

• Diagnoses and trouble shoots high tech equipment including bioreactors, pressurized vessels, refrigerated or HVAC system

• Undertake regular stock assessment of gasses used in operating the laboratory equipment in both IDR and Bioprocessing and effect purchase of gasses where necessary.

• In consultation with the Bioprocessing Platform personnel, lead the process of configuring the laboratories by arranging, moving or placing equipment to function optimally.

• Provide troubleshooting support on equipment especially on bioprocessing equipment.

• Assist in improving the competency on utility operations by the technicians and interns.

• Ensures that general equipment i.e. cleaning, yard maintenance and landscaping is kept in good condition and stored appropriately. Stakeholder Relations Plans

• Provides support to clients during the design and commissioning of their equipment and facilities

• Initiate stock order, receive and supervise installation where necessary.

• Liaise and be a point of contact for utilities or building maintenance suppliers\service providers when they are on site to fix utilities equipment, or when equipment is malfunctioning.

• Ensure that service providers are given correct instruction\information on faulty utility\ equipment Internal Processes

• Recommend and oversee repairs to defects and renovations to interior/ exterior building surfaces and surroundings where applicable.

• Relevant quotations are sourced timely and processed through approved processes.

• Record keeping of job cards\service reports in the appropriate files.

• Fault finding and identification of operating system faults

• Ensure proper functioning of utilities by performing daily monitoring.

• General maintenance and safety of the Platform Governance and Compliance

• Implements Safety Health Environment systems and procedures in area of work

• Assume custodian and ensure limited SHE incident relating to site safety risks.
