LABORATORY MANAGER
Duration: Permanent
The South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) Biomedical Research Innovation Platform (BRIP) requires a suitably qualified and experienced Laboratory Manager with relevant skills to manage the multidisciplinary SAMRC BRIP laboratories and provide support to BRIP scientists.
Responsibilities:
- To support, manage and oversee all research activities within BRIP laboratories and to ensure that research is conducted according to good laboratory practice (GLP)
- To conduct fault finding and troubleshooting within the research facility and to ensure methods are followed accordingly
- To oversee routine tasks/experiments and establish the quality assurance systems at BRIP in order to ensure adherence to protocol, policies and procedures
- To assess compliance to ISO accreditation, development and regular review of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Regulatory Essential Documents as required
- To determine the accuracy of research records
- To manage supplies/laboratory reagents for adequate workflow management within BRIP
- To maintain maintenance schedules for equipment and comply with accreditation standards
- Responsible for Health and Safety within BRIP laboratories
- Conduct research activities including molecular biology techniques, histology, immunohistochemistry, and animal experiments (conduct experiments, analyse and write reports) as required
- To provide training to students and staff on biomedical research, as required, based on the identification of trends/needs
- Write quality assessment reports
- Disseminate raw and analysed data into reports which include research findings, interpretation of results and QA/QC to researchers/collaborators

Core Requirements:
- MSc Biomedical Research or similar relevant qualification or higher
- 5 years’ experience as a molecular biology/biomedical research Laboratory Manager across several disciplines and in staff management
- 3-5 years’ experience with laboratory quality control and assurance procedures and practices
- Experience in Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and writing standard laboratory procedures (SOPs)
- Able to present at meetings/ workshops
- Proven record in writing reports
- Computer Skills with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Power point, Outlook and Teams)
Advantageous/ Preferred qualification/experience:
- PhD or equivalent qualification
- HPCSA registration
- Experience in working in a SANAS accredited laboratory environment
