Geochemist / Soil Scientist (Grade B) by SLR Consulting

The graduate Geochemist / Soil Scientist will assist the senior Geochemist to manage and implement medium to large scale projects or whole tasks of larger projects undertaking geochemical studies primarily related to the mining industry. The candidate will assist with analysis of large geochemical datasets and critical interpretation of geochemical data pertaining to mining environments. Experience in the analysis of large geochemical datasets, including quality control, data interpretation and reporting will be essential as is a general knowledge of mining-related environmental issues and regulations and policies. The candidate would need to demonstrate attention to detail and critical analysis skills. They should have strong writing and communication skills with the ability to provide verbal presentations and written reports. They must have an ability to work independently and generate, implement and complete multiple work assignments in a dynamic environment.
From time to time the candidate would assist the Land Quality & Remediation Team in projects related to the down-stream oil and gas sector.

• Assist in the implementation of medium to large scale projects or whole tasks of larger projects
• Interpret technical data and information from maps and historical documents
• Compile technical reports
• Undertake project and support administrative duties
• Undertake desktop research, gap analysis and baseline studies
• Help prep site H&S documentation and training / induction requirements
• Undertake site work – groundwater supply monitoring, groundwater quality sampling, collection of waste and extractive materials and soil / sediment samples for geochemistry / soil science investigations
• Undertake conventional contaminated land Phase 1 and Phase 2 assessments
• Experience using geochemical modeling software packages
• Consult with the applicable government agencies and within the client’s requirements.
