Centre Manager at Stellenbosch University

Duties/Pligte

Bestuurspligte
  • Bied steun aan die Direkteur in die ontwikkeling van strategiese planne en die opstel van verslae;
  • Hulpverlening met die identifisering van befondsingsgeleenthede en die bestuur van befondsingsaansoeke (wat die skryf van die projekvoorstelle insluit);
  • Skakeling met die Skool vir Klimaatstudies aan die Universiteit Stellenbosch;
  • Die bestuur van navorsingskontrakte met vennote en/of navorsingsmedewerkers;
  • Die bestuur van verslaggewing deur en oor kern spanlede, na-doktorale studente en studente;
  • Die insameling van materiaal, die saamstelling en publisering van jaarverslae;
  • Daaglikse finansiële bestuur wat die afteken van bestellings insluit;
  • Die skedulering van vergaderings, en voorbereiding van dokumente vir vergaderings wat insluit: die van die S·I·B Stuurkomitee (twee per jaar), die S·I·B Bestuurskomitee
(maandeliks) en die S·I·B Wetenskapsadvieskomitee (twee per jaar);
  • Die skedulering en reël van die S·I·B se jaarlikse navorsingsvergadering;
  • Die reël van S·I·B se ad hoc-werksessies;
  • Tree op as lynbestuurder van die administratiewe assistent.

Skakelverpligtinge
  • Skakel met kern personeel, na-doktorale studente en studente ten einde te verseker dat navorsing glad verloop;
  • Skakel met kern spanlede, na-doktorale studente en studente ten einde bottelnekopeenhopings met betrekking tot befondsing en verslaggewing te voorkom;
  • Skakel met kern spanlede, na-doktorale studente en studente om kruisdissiplinêre skakels te identifiseer;
  • Skakel met die Universiteit Stellenbosch (veral die Skool vir Klimaatstudies), die DWI, die NNS, die S·I·B Stuurkomitee en ander partye wanneer nodig;
  • Skakel met eksterne befondsers en navorsingsmedewerkers ten einde volgehoue belyning met doelwitte te verseker;
  • Skakel met administratiewe en tegniese personeel ten einde personeel-, sowel as operasionele behoeftes, te identifiseer en daaraan aandag te gee.

Management duties

  • Providing support to the Director in developing strategic plans and producing reports;
  • Assisting with identifying funding opportunities and managing funding applications (including grant writing);
  • Liasing with the School for Climate Studies at Stellenbosch University;
  • Managing research contracts with partners and/or research collaborators;
  • Managing core team members, postdocs, and student reporting;
  • Collating material and drafting and publishing annual reports;
  • Daily financial management, including signing off on orders;
  • Scheduling meetings and preparing documents for meetings, including those of the C·I·B Steering Committee (two per year), C·I·B Management Committee (monthly) and
C·I·B Scientific Advisory Committee (two per year);
  • Scheduling and arranging the C·I·B’s annual research meetings;
  • Arranging C·I·B ad hoc workshops;
  • Acting as line manager for the administrative assistant.

Liaising duties
  • Liaising with core staff, postdocs and students to ensure that research is proceeding smoothly;
  • Liaising with core team members, postdocs and students to avoid bottlenecks in funding and reporting;
  • Liaising with core staff, postdocs and students to identify cross-disciplinary linkages;
  • Liaising with Stellenbosch University (especially its School for Climate Studies), DSI, NRF, the C·I·B Steering Committee and other parties as required;
  • Liaising with external funders and research collaborators to ensure continued alignment with objectives;
  • Liaising with administrative and technical staff to identify and address staff and operational needs.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

  • n Meestersgraad in besigheidsadministrasie of die natuurwetenskappe;
  • Bewese uitnemendheid in finansiële bestuur;
  • Bewese uitnemendheid in die skryf en redigeer van verslae en projekvoorstele.
  • A Master’s degree in business management or natural sciences;
  • Proven excellence in financial management;
  • Proven excellence in writing and editing of reports and grant proposals.

Recommendation/Aanbeveling

  • Ervaring van korporatiewe en privaat befondsingsliggame;
  • Ervaring van samewerking met die Nasionale Navorsingstigting en ander regeringsagentskappe, ideaal gesproke dié in die omgewingsbestuursveld;
  • Ervaring in die hantering van finansiële en/of menslike hulpbronne-kwessies by ‘n Suid-Afrikaanse universiteit.
  • Experience with corporate and private funding bodies;
  • Experience in dealing with the National Research Foundation and other government agencies, ideally those working in the field of environmental management;
  • Experience in dealing with financial and/or human resources matters at a South African university.
