Duties/Pligte

Helping to manage the implementation of the trial(s);
-
Performing clinical assessments (e.g. weighing, measuring, and checking vital signs);
-
Assisting with the clinical evaluation of participants (can be adults or children);
-
Taking blood samples (including from babies, children and adolescents);
-
Inserting intravenous cannulas (as required);
-
Performing TB diagnostic procedures, e.g. by obtaining sputum samples and gastric aspirates;
-
Preparing all samples, including gastric aspirates for transport to the laboratory;
-
Ensuring accurate completion of data collection forms, including questionnaires;
-
Managing patient records: maintaining and filing records according to visits (including blood results);
-
Recording essential data on the relevant forms meticulously and on time;
-
Maintaining patient confidentiality;
-
Maintaining clear communication channels with the study team and routine clinic staff;
-
Assisting and supporting the study team with recruitment;
- Assisting and managing a team of study staff, as well as the daily logistics of a busy clinical trial site to ensure optimal staff utilisation.

A nursing qualification and registration with the South African Nursing Council;
-
At least two years’ clinical paediatric or equivalent research experience, including performing phlebotomies;
-
Experience in leading and managing a research team;
-
The ability to solve problems independently and effectively;
-
Fluency in writing, reading and speaking English;
-
A valid driver’s licence;
-
The ability to work with babies, young children and adolescents;
-
Good interpersonal skills and the ability to function in a multidisciplinary team;
-
A punctual, well organised and responsible work ethic;
-
Basic computer literacy;
-
The willingness to work in townships should the project require it;
-
The willingness and availability to work flexible work hours should the project require it;
- The ability to prioritise own workload and exercise independent decision-making.
Recommendation/Aanbeveling
-
GCP training and certification;
- Proficiency in isiXhosa or Afrikaans (or both).
