The Mining Technical team seeks to appoint a Junior Technical Specialist!

Site specific product/customer management

• Ensure that product issued to customers is in an acceptable cleanliness level through correct filtration on site and management thereof.
• Implementation of quality program on all sites including weekly/monthly reporting to customers
• Ensure clear communication and exemplary customer management.
• Generate value to customers by understanding customer operation and areas of improvement.
• Assist in ensuring that used/waste hydrocarbons are collected and disposed of in a responsible manner.

• Comply to TotalEnergies HSEQ rules and relevant ISO/SANS controls.

Tribology/Technical Service

• Ensure that there are Continuous Improvement Projects (CIPs) per site, and that these are agreed/approved by the customer. Are measurable, monitored and reported on regular basis to the customer with regard to fuel and services.
• Assist in improving the profitability of the division through introduction of high margin specialized products/services.
• Theoretical understanding of Energy consumption and movement.
• Target 10% buy-out at prospective mines through testing of superior niche products at higher margins.
• Prepare and present business review and KPIs, including asset management in the area of responsibility
• Maintain and improve on customer contractual SLA’s(Fuels)
• Share client information using CRM tools
• Assist the customer with the reduction in client’s total cost of ownership (TCO).
• Ensure constant fuel quality visibility on each mining site.
• Ensure that there is performance deviation reporting to the customer and the sales team.
• Support business in tender evaluations and proposals.
• To share optimisation and maintenance World Class best practices with the customer, the other tribologists and the sales team
• Conduct site surveys, introduction of new TotalEnergies products and technologies, manage contamination control
• Ensure that there is cost effective usage of TotalEnergies products by the customer through training
• Ensure that the number of second tier products replaced by TotalEnergies products or more cost-effective products.
• Ensure Zero leakage philosophy (co-operation/synergy with filter, hose & seal suppliers).
• Equipment life extension (Co-operation with original equipment manufacturers/OEM’s).
• Help with training and development of client personnel in tribology.
• Highlight maintenance inefficiencies.
• Proactively manage maintenance operations (filtration elements change, monitoring, piping upgrades, storage tank reporting and cleaning) on sites with ISP’s, Maintenance contractors and report on to Mine owned equipment (value add reporting)
• Monitor and highlight FMS data quality
• Recommend and manage filtration system and upgrades(fuel)
• Participate in RCA investigations
• Manage service providers (incl. purchase orders, payments etc.)
• Project management

Tribology and Technical strategy

• To participate in developing the strategy to improve the current service offering by both Technical and Sales teams. Assist TotalEnergies to improve the profitability of the accounts and customer service.

HSEQ

• To ensure constant adherence and compliance to company HSEQ and security standards, local by-laws, standards and legislation so as to minimise all risk pertaining to company assets and protection of life.
• Address all fuel qualified/relevant invariants on sites where risk is attributed to TotalEnergies, together with TotalEnergies engineering.

• The Technical Fuel Specialist is a vital part of the Mining and Energy segment. A high learning curve, complimented by dedication and experience will delivery results in the everchanging environment.
• The job involves the difficulty of changing maintenance cultures of the key users/maintenance foreman/engineers etc. that have been developed over a long period, getting these technical people to accept that the practices are not correct, accept recommendations and in certain cases accept that their operating budgets will be reduced to show a saving.
• Candidates must be open to travel within Southern Africa

To succeed in this role you will need the following qualifications, experience, skills and attributes:

• Technical qualification plus 3 years’ experience in mechanical/chemical engineering, tribology and or similar experience.
• Comprehensive/Theoretical mechanical know-how of engines, fuel injection systems, transmission, hydraulic and or typical mining and or manufacturing equipment, Sound knowledge of fuel & lubricant specifications and in-depth knowledge of TMSA and competitors products.
• Management, Negotiation, Analytical and presentation skills and mining industry experience
• Understanding of software packages e.g. Microsoft power point, MS teams, MS word, MS excel, MS projects, Power BI and SAP, would be advantageous.
• Drivers’ license is a must
• A clear criminal record
