JOB PURPOSE
The Africa Chief Information Officer (CIO)’s role is to provide vision and leadership for developing and executing the Africa IT Strategy in support of the New Equation (human-led and tech-powered) and the Africa business and digital strategy. The Africa CIO forms part of the Global Technology CIO organisation and ensures that, where feasible, the Africa IT strategy is aligned to the Global Technology Strategy (North Star) while partnering with Business to support the Africa Business and Digital Strategy. The Africa CIO directs the planning and implementation of territory IT systems in support of business operations in order to improve cost effectiveness, service quality and business development. Alignment with, and supporting the firm’s digital strategy is critical.This individual is responsible for all aspects of the territory’s information technology, systems, cloud solutions and support.

A. JOB PROFILE
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Strategy & planning
- Develop, implement and maintain the Africa technology strategy, ensuring it is aligned to the goals of the network technology strategy (as far as possible) and cyber readiness as well as the Africa firm’s business and digital strategies.
- Participate in strategic and operational governance processes of the business organisation as a member of the senior management team.
- Partner with business and Digital, and lead IT strategic and operational planning to achieve business and digital goals of the Lines by fostering and supporting the end-to-end digital asset innovation process. Coordinate the evaluation, deployment, and management of current and future IT solutions and digital assets across the organisation.
- Partner with the Chief Data Officer and Digital team to support Africa’s growth as a data business.
- Communicate with the global Technology Organisation as required and represent Africa in the global CIO community
- Develop and maintain an appropriate Africa-wide IT organisational structure that supports the needs of the business.
- Establish IT departmental goals, objectives, operating procedures, and reinforce the culture of client-centric business partners and problem solvers who deliver sustained value.
- Identify opportunities for the appropriate and cost-effective investment of financial resources in IT systems and resources, including staffing, sourcing, purchasing and in-house development.
- Assess and communicate risks associated with IT investments.
- Develop, track, and control the information technology annual operating and capital budgets.
- Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for IT spending and initiatives.
- Develop a culture of partnering with business, advising business, and supporting digital asset innovation as an end-to-end process
- Support and drive the implementation of global Technology initiatives
- Support development and execution of an enterprise-wide disaster recovery and business continuity plan.
- Assess and make recommendations on the improvement or re-engineering of the IT organization.
Acquisition & Deployment
- Coordinate and facilitate consultation with stakeholders to define business and systems requirements for new technology implementations.
- Approve, prioritise, and control projects and the project portfolio as they relate to the selection, acquisition, development and rollout of digital solutions.
- Review cloud platforms, hardware and software acquisition and maintenance contracts and pursue master agreements to capitalize on economies of scale.
- Define and communicate corporate plans, policies, and standards for the organization for acquiring, implementing, and operating digital and cloud IT solutions.
Operational Management
- Ensure continuous delivery of IT / digital / cloud services through oversight of service level agreements with end users and monitoring of IT systems performance.
- Ensure IT operation / digital / cloud systems and solutions adhere to applicable laws and regulations.
- Establish lines of control for current and proposed information systems.
- Keep current with trends and issues in the IT and digital industry, including current technologies and prices. Advise, counsel, and educate executives and management on their competitive or financial impact.
- Promote and oversee strategic relationships between internal IT resources and external entities, including government, vendors, and partner organizations.
- Supervise recruitment, development, retention, and organization of all IT staff in accordance with the Firm’s budgetary objectives and personnel policies.

- Bachelor’s degree in the field of computer science, business administration or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum 12 years of experience working in different areas of an IT organisation
- Minimum 5 years experience in a leadership role within an IT organisation
- Experience in strategic planning and execution.
- Experience in driving business-focussed Digital Transformation initiatives
- Considerable knowledge of business theory, business processes, management, budgeting, and business office operations.
- Substantial exposure to data processing, hardware platforms, enterprise software applications and cloud infrastructure and systems.
- Good understanding of computer systems characteristics, features, and integration capabilities.
- Experience with systems design and development from business requirements analysis
- Proven experience in IT planning, organization, development and change management
- Excellent understanding of project management principles.
- Superior understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
- Good understanding of the organisation’s risk management processes and cyber objectives
- Demonstrated ability to apply IT in solving business problems.
- In-depth knowledge of applicable laws and regulations as they relate to IT.
- Strong understanding of human resource management principles, practices, and procedures.
